Netflix and Globo sign their biggest licensing deal, bringing 18 Brazilian titles including I’m Still Here
Brazil’s Globo and Netflix announced the largest content licensing agreement ever signed between the two companies, putting 18 Globo productions on Netflix starting in December, Netflix said Monday. The package is led by Walter Salles’ Oscar winner I’m Still Here, Variety reported.
What’s in the deal: The package includes 14 films, three telenovelas and one series, dubbed and subtitled in multiple languages, with titles rolling out through mid-2027, according to Netflix. Rights cover different territories: I’m Still Here, winner of the 2025 Academy Award for Best International Feature, is licensed for Brazil only, while Vitória, directed by Andrucha Waddington and starring Fernanda Montenegro, will be available worldwide, Netflix said.
The telenovela and the comedy: India – A Love Story, created by Glória Perez and directed by Marcos Schechtman, won the 2009 International Emmy for Best Telenovela and is licensed for the United States and Latin America, excluding Brazil, according to Netflix. The deal also covers seven seasons of the comedy series Vai Que Cola, exclusively for Brazil.
What they said: “We hope this agreement is just the first step in a long partnership between two companies that share the ambition, creative craftsmanship and commitment to take Brazilian culture even further,” said Elisabetta Zenatti, vice president of content at Netflix Brazil, according to the companies’ announcement. “It makes us proud to see interest in Brazilian productions growing across different markets,” said Pedro Garcia, Globo’s director of rights.
The bigger picture: “Licensing spend is growing while original production spend is flat,” Guy Bisson, executive director of Ampere Analysis, told Variety. Variety, citing Omdia, reported that Netflix is forecast to have 63.8 million subscriptions in Latin America in 2026.
