Boulder’s climate case and the FTC’s AI probe may show consumer claims becoming one route to national industries, as a new White House AI task force builds on voluntary pledges
The Supreme Court’s new term opened Monday with arguments over Exxon and Suncor’s bid to throw out Boulder’s lawsuit, which alleges the companies misled consumers about climate change and seeks damages for local climate-change costs; the companies deny the allegations. The FTC is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies over the potential dangers their products pose to consumers. Separately, President Trump’s new “Super Intelligence Force,” which will include FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, follows a voluntary AI safety accord. Read together, they may show claims about what consumers were told or exposed to becoming one route to national industries, while the Supreme Court weighs how much of that route states keep.
