Rays rally in the 12th to beat Brewers 4-3 and force World Series Game 5
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field, avoiding a sweep, MLB.com reported. Pinch-hitter Ben Williamson’s walk-off single capped a two-run rally after Milwaukee took the lead in the top of the 12th. The Brewers lead the series 3-1, and Game 5 is Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
The 12th inning: Brewers rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt hit a solo home run off Ian Seymour in the top of the 12th for a 3-2 lead, MLB.com reported. In the bottom half, third baseman Joey Ortiz’s throw on a leadoff grounder bounced off first baseman Jake Bauers’ mitt for an error, the AP reported. Liam Hicks, Jonny DeLuca, Chandler Simpson and Williamson then hit consecutive singles.
The replay: In the top of the ninth of a 2-2 game, Pratt was called safe stealing second as the go-ahead run, but Rays manager Kevin Cash challenged, and after a review of nearly four minutes the call was overturned to end the inning, Yahoo Sports reported.
By the numbers: The game lasted 4 hours, 20 minutes before 40,514 fans, according to Baseball-Reference. Seymour got the win and Shane Drohan took the loss. The Rays are the fifth team to force a Game 5 after trailing a World Series 3-0, and none of the previous four forced a Game 6, MLB.com reported.
Game 5: Jacob Misiorowski will start for the Brewers on Wednesday at Tropicana Field, and Tampa Bay had not named a starter, MLB.com reported. Milwaukee is still one win from its first World Series title.
