World Series and Lakers openers may test who is ready to play

The Tampa Bay Rays picked Nick Martinez over ace Drew Rasmussen for Friday’s World Series Game 1, MLB.com and ESPN reported, while Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski makes his first start in 11 days, CBS Sports reported. The Lakers beat the Warriors 127-105 on Oct. 21, AP reported; Golden State played without four players, AP reported, and our archive does not tie the result to their absence. The openers may test who is ready to play as much as who is best.
