A judge’s halt on taxpayer-funded pro-Trump ads and Reuters’ tally of distancing Republicans may hint at pressure on Trump’s midterm brand

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Rochon on Sunday ordered the Trump administration to stop airing government-funded TV ads that portray President Donald Trump favorably, NBC News and POLITICO reported; Common Cause called it a temporary restraining order. A Reuters review of 62 competitive House and Senate races found Republican candidates in 41 putting some distance from Trump, mostly on single issues; the White House called Trump the party’s “best messenger.” Read together, they may hint at pressure on Trump’s brand ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, though the ads link is mostly timing.
