Canada’s base fire and France’s riots may show limits of early numbers
Four Canadian soldiers died in a fire during live-fire training at CFB Wainwright in Alberta on Oct. 17, Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed, after military sources had told Global News at least seven died. In France, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said his teams had forecast 200,000 demonstrators; authorities estimated about 550,000 marched Oct. 17, and a damage figure is an industry estimate, not an official tally. Read together, they may show the limits of first figures in a crisis.
