‘Clayface’ opens at No. 1 with about $24 million; ‘You Can See Everything’ grows 25%

Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ Clayface opened at No. 1 with an estimated $24 million, according to Sunday studio estimates reported by Deadline and The Numbers. A24’s documentary You Can See Everything took $19.5 million in its second weekend, up 25% from its opening. These are Sunday estimates; actual figures are due Monday.

The winner: Clayface earned $10.6 million on Friday, $7.8 million on Saturday and an estimated $5.6 million on Sunday from 3,458 theaters, Deadline reported. Deadline’s headline put the opening at $24.5 million, while its chart and The Numbers listed $24 million. The film opened to $19 million from 76 markets abroad, for about $43 million worldwide, The Numbers reported.

The documentary: You Can See Everything, from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, rose to $19.5 million after expanding to 2,655 theaters, bringing its total to $45.1 million, Deadline and The Numbers reported. A second weekend bigger than an opening is very rare, The Numbers noted. Its $7,345 per-theater average was the best of any film in wide release, according to The Numbers.

The rest of the chart: Laika’s Wildwood opened third, at $11.6 million in Deadline’s count and $11 million in The Numbers’ chart. Street Fighter fell 72% to $8.6 million in its second weekend, and Wicker, starring Olivia Colman, opened fifth with $5.75 million, both outlets reported. Klara and the Sun opened to $725,000 from 880 theaters.

What to watch: Deadline estimated about $101 million for all films over the weekend, up 33% from a year ago. Halloween falls on a Saturday next weekend, which Deadline expects to hurt ticket sales.
