‘Clayface’ leads Friday box office as ‘You Can See Everything’ expands
Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ R-rated Clayface took an estimated $9.5 million on Friday, including previews, and is on track for a $23 million to $25 million opening weekend, Deadline reported. A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything is heading for about $19 million in its second weekend. These are early estimates, not final weekend totals.
The leader: Clayface, directed by James Watkins, made $3.5 million in Thursday previews, Variety and Deadline reported. Deadline said it is playing in 3,458 theaters. The film cost $44 million to produce, much less than DC’s Superman and Supergirl, Variety reported. Projections differ: Variety had cited a $25 million to $35 million forecast before Friday, with some rival estimates lower.
The documentary: You Can See Everything, from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, took $5.8 million on Friday after expanding from 855 to 2,655 locations, Deadline reported. Its $15.6 million limited opening last weekend was the largest launch for a nonmusical documentary in 20 years, according to Variety.
The rest of the chart: Laika’s stop-motion Wildwood is tracking for $11 million or more in third place after a $4.2 million Friday, Deadline reported. Street Fighter is fourth with an estimated $9.5 million weekend, and Black Bear’s Wicker, starring Olivia Colman, is fifth at $6 million or more, according to Deadline. Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun is looking at about $900,000, Deadline reported.
What to watch: Final weekend figures usually come on Sunday and can shift from Friday estimates.
